Salmonella Recovery from Cantaloupe Comparing High and Low Inoculums

Similar to meat, Salmonella contamination on fruit and vegetable surfaces is a significant food safety issue. This study, conducted by an independent third party research institution, demonstrates that even at low levels of surface contamination the M-Vac can recover significantly higher levels of bacteria from cantaloupe surfaces compared to excision or massage. When testing for food contamination, especially on rough or porous surfaces, being able to collect and detect low levels of potentially pathogenic bacteria can make the difference between safe and unsafe food products.
