Story Synopsis:
A 71-year-old woman in a typical neighborhood in Fishers, Indiana, accidentally left her garage door open overnight. As the night became early morning, she was awakened by two young men in her room. They were shining a flashlight in her face and began sexually assaulting her. But she fought back! After a brief struggle, the two young men ran out of her home and fled by vehicle. They took her purse with them and a transaction made by Suspect A on her credit card helped police track him down and arrest him the same day. He named Suspect B, who was arrested the next day. Evidence taken from the crime scene, a balaclava mask the victim grabbed off her assailant's head, was processed with the M-Vac® and the DNA obtained was determined to match Suspect B. Multiple other items of evidence were processed using traditional methods without producing meaningful results. Suspect A was tried and sentenced in March 2026 and Suspect B in April of 2026.
This is an example of how quickly a crime can be analyzed and resolved, due to both sound police practices and the timely use of the M-Vac®. Both young men were apprehended and off the streets in just over 24 hours of the crime. They were tried and began serving their time within a year. Fishers PD has worked hard to make this be the norm in their department. (See our related story "Quick Results Method.") Quick justice is a benefit to the victim and to society as criminals are off the streets and deterred from repeat offenses.
